Remember the ng sound humming through the nose? Whenever n comes right before k, the n automatically borrows the /ng/ sound, so nk together says /ngk/. Say "sink" slowly: /s/ /i/ /ngk/. Can you hear the /ng/ hiding right before the /k/?
