STEP 1 — Phonemic Awareness  |  Part A — Blending
Say each sound, then blend into a word:

/sh/ /ĭ/ /p/ → ship
/d/ /ĭ/ /sh/ → dish
/r/ /ŭ/ /sh/ → rush
/sh/ /ŏ/ /p/ → shop

Say the word, then break it into sounds:

shed → /sh/ /ĕ/ /d/
cash → /k/ /æ/ /sh/
fish → /f/ /ĭ/ /sh/
shin → /sh/ /ĭ/ /n/

/k/ after a short vowel  =  ck
